Canoes and Brews

    Para Canoe

    Para Canoe is a program introduced by Canoe Kayak Canada to promote paddling for individuals with physical disabilities. Recreational canoes and kayaks are used to introduce participants to the sport of paddling. The program includes a safety orientation and technical instruction by experienced coaches. Each paddler will have an experienced paddling partner for 1:1 support. Although all abilities are welcome, paddlers must be comfortable on the water.

    Athletes registered in this program meet twice a week. Every paddler, with their coach, chooses their own boat based on comfort level and the training is tailored to meet each paddler's needs. The focus is on fun and safety.

    • The program runs for 8 weeks, from June 26th to August 17th. There are no sessions on July 3rd or August 18th
    • Recreational paddles are MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS from 6:45 to 7:45.
    • Program delivery is subject to sufficient participant registration. 

     

      Paddle All- Wascana Rehab

        Paddle All

        Paddle All is a program introduced by Canoe Kayak Canada to promote paddling for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Recreational canoes and kayaks are used to introduce paddlers with intellectual and developmental disabilities to the sport of paddling. The program includes a safety orientation, technical instruction, and instruction by experienced coaches. Each paddler will have an experienced paddling partner for 1:1 support. Although all abilities are welcome, paddlers must be comfortable on the water.

        Athletes (9 and over) registered in this program meet twice a week. Every paddler, with their coach, chooses their own boat based on comfort level and the training is tailored to meet each paddler's needs. The focus is on fun and safety.

        • The program runs for 8 weeks, from June 26th to August 17th. There are no sessions on July 3rd or August 18th
        • Recreational paddles are MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS from 5:30 to 6:30.
        • Program delivery is subject to sufficient participant registration. 

         

         

          Spring Learn to Kayak (May)

            Morning Summer Camps (7-9yrs)

            Participants will be introduced to the sport of paddling in a fun and involved way! Paddlers will learn all the basic skills to paddle their boats and be safe around water!  Experience single, double and four person racing canoes and kayaks; the 15 person Canadian War Canoe; the 10- or 20-person dragon boat; and even playboats!

              Full Day Summer Camps (10-13 yrs)

              Participants will be introduced to the sport of paddling in a fun and involved way! Paddlers will learn all the basic skills to paddle their boats and be safe around water!  Experience single, double and four person racing canoes and kayaks; the 15 person Canadian War Canoe; the 10- or 20-person dragon boat; and even playboats!

                Youth - Competitive

                The Regatta Ready group is for paddlers who have been through one of our learn-to-paddle programs and feel the drive to take their skills to the next level!  The primary objective of this group is fundamental movement/sport skill development while developing and understanding canoe/kayak workout design and boat skills. Athletes in this group are expected to compete at all qualified divisional events, as well as all events and club activities as outlined by the coaching staff.

                Junior Development (age 13-15) and High Performance (age 15+) are programs for athletes who have chosen Canoe/Kayak Sprint as their primary sport and are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. Athletes will have the opportunity to be involved with decision-making regarding training and competitions, and will be asked to be accountable for those decisions. Athletes are required to be involved in nation-wide competitions (should they qualify), provincial training camps and club activities as set by the coaching staff.  Prerequisite: Invitation from coaching staff.

                Competitive fees include a work commitment portion.  Each work commitment is valued at $50.  There is an option to pay for the work commitment in cash or by working a volunteer shift.

                The WRCC Family Payment Plan applies only to members of the same immediate family and only to competitive WRCC fee programs.  The plan does not apply to casual or session offerings such as Adult or Youth Learn to Kayak or War Canoe or Kayak Camp.  Before registering, reach out to wrcc_treasurer@yahoo.ca to obtain your customized Promo Codes.  (Discount Policy:· 1 member - full fee payment and must fulfill all work commitments + (WC), if applicable, 2 members - deduct 10% from equivalent or lesser full-time fee and must fulfill all WC, if applicable, 3+members - as above for 2 members and deduct 50% from third and subsequent equivalent or lesser fees. The maximum WC for a family is 12)

                Masters Competitive Summer Season

                This is a WRCC voting membership. It is required to serve on the WRCC Board. 

                Getting into racing/sprint style canoes and kayaks on the lake is what the Masters Competitive program focuses on, as well as improving balance, technique and specific racing skills. During practice sessions coaches will work with individual athletes to help them to achieve personal goals. Whether your goal is to race at local, national, or international competitions, or to not race at all, the Masters Competitive group is a great way to challenge yourself and have fun!

                On-water paddling starts as early as the beginning of May and carries through until mid or late October depending on seasonal conditions. If you are in this program, you can attend coached group practice sessions and you have boat and water access and can paddle independently (subject to Club safety regulations) as long as the docks are in the water (approximately early May until late October.

                 All WRCC programs follow the Canoe Kayak Canada Long Term Athlete Development Model.  Adult recreational programming falls into the "Active for Life” designation of lifelong paddling. The goal is to keep paddlers involved in the sport for life. Some individuals enter this stage from the competitive scene, while others may never have been competitive paddlers and just enjoy the recreational and fitness aspects of the sport. Social interaction is a strong component of master’s paddling.

                  Masters Competitive Monthly Membership

                  This monthly membership is a non voting membership.  With this membership fees to race in Canoe Kayak Canada events have not been paid.

                    Adult Learn to Paddle

                    NEW PADDLERS... NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED

                    Morning and Evening Sessions

                    Learn the basics of kayaking in a friendly group environment in lessons taught by one of our skilled instructors.  We supply the boats, paddles and PFD's.

                    Once you have learned the basics that are taught in this course you will be prepared to join our Intermediate Level Kayaking (see below) or become an Associate Member (see Recreational Adult Memberships).

                    If you move onto Intermediate Level Kayaking in the same season you will receive a $25 discount.

                    Group size is kept to 6 + your instructor. A minimum of 2 paddlers will be required to run a session. If the session does not run your session will be rescheduled.

                    Our Learn To Kayak sessions being with the very stable FOCUS 15 Touring Kayaks.  However, based on your progression and interest your instructor will have access to a variety of boats. Or, participants may use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets.

                      Adult Intermediate Level Kayak

                      For paddlers who have taken Learn to Kayak at least one time or are returning paddlers and wish to further develop their skills in a group coach-lead social environment . You will be encouraged in this group to progress towards paddling the racing style (sprint style) kayaks in a safe, social and fun environment 

                      Imagine, the sun setting behind you on a warm summer evening, the sleek waves purling off the bow of your kayak as you glide your way across beautiful Wascana Lake.   

                      The instructor will work with you during the sessions to help you individually meet your goals whether they are, for example, to improve fitness, develop skills, try different boats, or just enjoy being on the water in a group. Individuals sometimes paddle with this group for many years, others may progress towards joining the Competitive Masters Program.  

                      Group size is kept to 6 + your instructor. A minimum of 3 paddlers will be required to run a session. If it is not possible to go on the water for a session you will have a kayak related dryland session or your session will be rescheduled.

                      Equipment: Based on your progression and interest your instructor will have access to a variety of boats. Or, participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets.

                      All WRCC programs follow the Canoe Kayak Canada Long Term Athlete Development Model.  Adult recreational programming falls into the "Active for Life” designation of lifelong paddling. The goal is to keep paddlers involved in the sport for life. Some individuals enter this stage from the competitive scene, while others may never have been competitive paddlers and just enjoy the recreational and fitness aspects of the sport. Social interaction is a strong component of master’s paddling.

                        Dragonboat Membership

                        This is the registration required for members of  a dragon boat crew that is registered with the WRCC or that is renting a dragon boat from the WRCC. You must be on a crew to join.

                        Paddling dates/times are established by the team/crew captain.

                        This is a summer season membership.

                         

                          War Canoe, C4 and Stand Up Paddle Board

                          This membership entitles the paddler to paddle with a war canoe crew, C4s with other crew members or stand up paddle boards.  

                          War Canoe times and dates are set by the coach.  War canoe go on the water when 10 or more paddlers show up.

                          SUPs are available during club hours. 

                          All WRCC programs follow the Canoe Kayak Canada Long Term Athlete Development Model.  Adult recreational programming falls into the "Active for Life” designation of lifelong paddling. The goal is to keep paddlers involved in the sport for life. Some individuals enter this stage from the competitive scene, while others may never have been competitive paddlers and just enjoy the recreational and fitness aspects of the sport.                             Alumni Membership

                            This special option is for those members who have raced at National Team Trials and Canadian National Championships and have a desire to continue to paddle.

                            The alumni membership includes boat storage for one boat and usage throughout the warm-water season. Alumni members may also use club boats.

                            This is a summer membership from May 1 to October 31.

                             

                              Adult Associate Membership

                              This special option is for those members who have taken a learn-to-paddle with us, are responsible, and feel comfortable out on the water on their own. Paddlers are not coached.

                              The associate membership includes boat storage for one boat or usage throughout the warm-water season. Please contact us if you have any questions.

                              This is a summer membership from May 1 to October 31.

                               

                                Private Lessons

                                Working one on one with an instructor is the best way to learn.  If you would like to improve your shills at your own pace, with personalized attention and a customized focus, we are happy to arrange private lessons with an expert instructor.  Lessons are one and one-half hours from arrival and greeting.

                                Boats are supplied or bring your own.  

                                Lessons are one to one or bring your friends and share the cost.
