For paddlers who have taken Learn to Kayak at least one time or are returning paddlers and wish to further develop their skills in a group coach-lead social environment . You will be encouraged in this group to progress towards paddling the racing style (sprint style) kayaks in a safe, social and fun environment
Imagine, the sun setting behind you on a warm summer evening, the sleek waves purling off the bow of your kayak as you glide your way across beautiful Wascana Lake.
The instructor will work with you during the sessions to help you individually meet your goals whether they are, for example, to improve fitness, develop skills, try different boats, or just enjoy being on the water in a group. Individuals sometimes paddle with this group for many years, others may progress towards joining the Competitive Masters Program.
Group size is kept to 6 + your instructor. A minimum of 3 paddlers will be required to run a session. If it is not possible to go on the water for a session you will have a kayak related dryland session or your session will be rescheduled.
Equipment: Based on your progression and interest your instructor will have access to a variety of boats. Or, participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets.
All WRCC programs follow the Canoe Kayak Canada Long Term Athlete Development Model. Adult recreational programming falls into the "Active for Life” designation of lifelong paddling. The goal is to keep paddlers involved in the sport for life. Some individuals enter this stage from the competitive scene, while others may never have been competitive paddlers and just enjoy the recreational and fitness aspects of the sport. Social interaction is a strong component of master’s paddling.
